Undergrad Student Wins Transportation and Logistics Award During Study Abroad semester

May 01, 2009

The College of Business Administration was thrilled to hear the news that one our undergraduate students, Lauren Paul, while part of a study abroad semester at the National University Ireland in Galway, is the recipient of the very prestigious first prize in the Air category from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). The CILT in Ireland hosts an annual "Ideas of the Year Awards" recognizing people and organizations who have developed innovative ideas which can make a significant contribution to the logistics and transport industry. As part a Logistics and Transportation class, Lauren and other students were asked to submit an idea for the competition.

Lauren’s project entitled "Infrared Heat Technology Application for De-icing Planes at Dublin Airport" won the top prize. She discovered the technology is being used at JFK airport in New York, and proposed its use at Dublin’s airport. The report showed how the use of the infrared heat technology could dramatically reduce the pollution caused by the traditional means of de-icing aircrafts, the amount of time it takes to currently de-ice aircrafts, and that the overall usage of the technology would offset the initial start up costs.

Lauren receives her prestigious award and prize on the 8th May 2009 in the Presidents Drawing room, National University Ireland, Galway.

Congratulations Lauren!
