Marquette's Beta Alpha Psi Chapter Wins the Gold Challenge

September 03, 2009

Each year, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) chapters are recognized as Superior Chapters if they meet participation requirements at the college, regional, and national level. Marquette’s chapter has received this distinction for the past 21 consecutive years. Of the 265 active chapters in 2009, 134 were recognized as Superior Chapters.

This past year, BAP decided to recognize chapters that go above and beyond what is required to become a Superior Chapter through a KPMG Gold Challenge. To be eligible, chapters were required to submit a 10-minute video presentation demonstrating why their chapter deserved the award. At the annual meeting in New York City, the 14 winning chapters were announced, and Marquette’s chapter was honored to be among the winners.

Marquette’s video submission focused on its activities that exemplify the goals of BAP through the use of the acronym BRIDGE:

  • Building relationships with peers and professionals
  • Recognizing and rewarding scholastic success
  • Instilling commitment to lifelong professional development
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Giving back to the community through service
  • Encouraging ethical behavior

A few of the video highlights included:

  • 1,385 donated hours through 10 service events (Superior Status requirement = 840 hours and one service event)
  • 1,891 professional hours were earned through 30 professional meetings (Superior Status requirement = 840 hours)
  • $4,000 in scholarships awarded
Marquette’s chapter is proud to be a Gold Challenge winner during the award’s inaugural year. The chapter will strive to attain this status again in the upcoming academic year.
