Dr. Olga Yakusheva's Research on College Weight Gain Receives National Attention

Research by co-authors Olga Yakusheva, assistant professor of economics at Marquette University, and Kandice Kapinos of the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, was recently highlighted in articles in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and on ABC News.
The study, published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, found that weight gain by college women was affected by the behaviors and weight of their roommates, as well as proximity of the dormitory to the cafeterias and gyms. The study was the first to assess college weight gain using randomized roommate/dormitory assignments.
