Dr. Mark Eppli Moderates BizTimes Real Estate Conference
December 08, 2010
“Ten years ago, who would have dreamed that we would be holding a commercial real estate conference at a casino, at 8:00 a.m., in the Menomonee Valley?” commented Dr. Mark Eppli as he kicked off the 2010 Milwaukee BizTimes annual commercial real estate development conference. The conference focus was, “Milwaukee 2020,” and took a look at trends over the next ten years in southwest Wisconsin and beyond.
More than 300 people attended the conference, which included panelists from Johnson Controls (Andrew DeGuire), the Airport Gateway Business Association (Tom Rave), Kahler Slater (Jill Morin), as well as Milwaukee Department of City Development commissioner Rocky Marcoux.
Dr. Eppli opened the conference analogizing the fundamental shifts in demographics and socioeconomics using popular family sitcoms, suggesting that we are moving from a white, suburban, traditional middle class family setting (think Leave it to Beaver and The Brady Bunch) to a multi-racial, urban, alternative/unconventional setting (think Modern Family) setting, providing the framework for his presentation on demographic trends, growth projections, and the current recession.
