MBA students assist firms with BBB Torch Awards

February 20, 2012

Two teams of MBA students worked with Wisconsin companies to assist them in the often challenging and rigorous Better Business Bureau Torch Awards application process. Each year the Wisconsin BBB holds its Torch Awards, recognizing both for-profit and nonprofit organizations for ethics and integrity.

Each student team met with senior leadership at one organization to develop, fine-tune and ultimately present to them an application. One company, Sargento Foods, submitted the student-prepared application and subsequently won the 2011 Torch Award in its category.

“All of this is testament to the tremendous effort of this team of students,” said John Fons, adjunct instructor of management. “In a time when the public is expressing its dissatisfaction with and its distrust of ‘Big Business,’ companies like Sargento define real, ethical leadership.”
