Dr. Marko Bastl, assistant professor of management in the operations and supply chain management program, was recently honored with the Best Paper Award from the Logistics Research Network of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the United Kingdom.

The study, “Sustainability assessment of food chain logistics,” which Bastl co-authored with three others, presents a sustainability research framework for food chain logistics and analyzed and diagnosed the current status of food industry using that framework.

“In 2012, we started a collaborative international project on this topic named SCALE (Step Change
in Agri-food Logistics Ecosystems),” Bastl says. “SCALE aims to deliver a number of tools and frameworks valuable for the agri-food sector to secure a step change in operational practices, which will improve the efficiency and sustainability of supply chain logistics.”

Bastl, who joined Marquette Business in August 2013, previously worked as a senior research fellow in the Supply Chain Research Centre at the Cranfield School of Management in United Kingdom, where he also earned his Ph.D.
