ACRE grads make good
October 05, 2011
Two graduates of the Center for Real Estate’s former Associates in Commercial Real Estate program were featured in the Oct. 1, 2011, issue of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (“Marquette graduates develop apartment complex”).
From the article:
When Tina Anderson and Sherry Webb were working on their project for a Marquette University real estate class, they treated it as more than just an academic exercise.
Anderson and Webb found a site on Milwaukee's south side for a new apartment building. They consulted with Department of City Development officials to make sure the proposal followed the city's neighborhood plan. And they met with an architect and general contractor to create cost estimates to go along with their revenue projections.
The students got a good grade. Even better, they're about to see their class project become a real-world development, with excavation work to begin this week on the 24-unit Mitchell Street Market Lofts, at W. Mitchell St. and S. Muskego Ave.
"We acted like it was going to happen," Webb said, recalling the effort she and Anderson put into their class presentation.
Added Anderson, "We thought this could be real."
The Center for Real Estate was the founding educational partner for the Associates in Commercial Real Estate program, a minority outreach program that provides commercial real estate training, networking and mentoring opportunities. Now spun off as the ACRE Network and led by ACRE graduates, the group is carrying on the successful program, which has served more than 125 individuals since 2004.
