Accounting students win Deloitte Audit Case Competition

December 10, 2013

A team of Marquette Business students bested their competition to take first place at the Deloitte Central Region Audit Case Competition in Chicago. Accounting students Elizabeth Cosgrove, Andrew North, Eric Riess and James Ward competed against teams from DePaul University, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin, University of Nebraska, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa.

The seven schools were each assigned a unique audit case and given seven weeks to develop responses to a series of questions. On competition day, each team was given 15 minutes to present their solution and face six minutes of Q&A from the judges. The four judges were all Deloitte partners from the Midwest region.

“Case competition wins reinforce the importance of a rigorous curriculum but also the ability to communicate that knowledge,” says Dr. Mark Eppli, Interim Keyes Dean of Business Administration.  “Thanks to the excellent work of our top-flight accounting faculty, our students compete well and place well.”
