Accounting chair Akers to be honored with a WICPA 2015 Excellence Award

Dr. Michael Akers, Charles T. Horngren Professor and chair of accounting, will be honored by the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants with a 2015 Excellence Award at its annual Member Recognition Banquet on May 6.
Akers will receive the Educator Award, which recognizes an accounting educator for excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum development, who exemplifies the philosophy of the CPA vision and is actively involved in the accounting profession.
A Marquette Business teaching award winner, Akers serves on the editorial advisory board of two journals and has authored more than 50 articles in academic and professional journals. His accomplishments include local and national recognition for his work with Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting honor society.
Akers also currently serves on the audit committee and board of directors of two publicly traded companies, and he has served on the boards of professional business organizations in Milwaukee, including the Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors. Prior to his academic career, Akers worked for Arthur Andersen.
