IT students partner with Milwaukee Safe & Sound

June 22, 2011

Under the direction of Kate Kaiser, associate professor of management, more than 40 students in her Systems Analysis and Design class worked to identify and design a prototype data system for Safe & Sound, a Milwaukee organization dedicated to reducing violent crime in high-risk neighborhoods throughout the city.

With a goal of increasing Safe & Sound’s effectiveness in reporting, tracking and evaluating efforts in the community, the class focused on two major IT needs: a fund development data system and property activity system used to manage information collected from community organizing efforts. The students presented their recommendations to Safe & Sound in May.

According to the organization, “The students identified and designed a prototype data system which is affordable, mobile, cloud-based, flexible, expandable and map-able. Perhaps the greatest impact, though, will be the increase in efficiency and ability the tool will grant our staff to carry out Safe & Sound’s mission in the community.”

More information on the students’ involvement with Safe & Sound is available online.
