Whether you are looking for a career in a number of areas, such as business, financial or credit analyst in the private or public sectors, our dedicated faculty will help you develop the tools that will prepare to be a socially responsible leader poised for a successful career. Our graduates are recruited by leading employers in the region and the nation, The Kohler Company, Kohl’s Department Stores, Accenture, Wells Fargo, US Bank and many more, including acceptance as graduate and law schools.
A Well-Rounded Curriculum
Our major covers both a study of microeconomics and macroeconomics at the intermediate level and one course in econometrics, the study of the use of statistical and quantitative methods to analyze business and economic data. Students complete the major with three electives in any field within Economics. The Department also offers a minor for students not in the College of Business Administration that provides basic concepts in business and economics along with the fundamentals of the analytical process. That exposure will help graduates in other part of the University supplement their majors to set them apart from students without that knowledge and skill set.
Applied Learning
Students have many opportunities to build enhance their classroom knowledge with applied learning experiences while learning from working professionals and our faculty members. Many majors are members of the student organization, the Marquette Economics Association, that brings together students from both the College of Business Administration and the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences to discuss current economic issues and hear from professionals in the area. You can also be a part of the Global Business Learning which is a unique volunteer organization that looks to assist communities in developing nations. By providing micro-enterprise solutions, it is the hope of the organization to foster sustainable business practices while preserving cultural ideals. Our majors can also take part in internships, and all students in the college have the opportunity to participate in our formal mentoring program.
A Head Start on a Master’s Degree in Economics
Those who wish to further their knowledge and skills in applied economics can start the Department’s Master of Science in Applied Economics (MSAE) during their undergraduate studies. Students can sign up for a five-year program that is set up so that both the bachelors and masters degrees are completed with just one additional year of courses. This is accomplished by students taking masters level courses that count for both the bachelors and masters degree while the student is still an undergraduate. Those courses are part of your regular tuition, so this says you money, too!
