Economics
Welcome from the Chair
There has never been a better time to study economics. Several years ago, the Wall Street Journal published an article entitled, “The Hot Major for Undergrads is Economics” (July 5, 2005) which focused on the growth in undergraduate economics programs and the reasons for their newfound popularity. Marquette’s experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels mirrors this national trend. Moreover, economics is increasingly seen as a valuable complement to other areas of study with many or our undergraduates double-majoring with other disciplines in Business (e.g., Finance, International Business, Marketing) and in Arts and Sciences (e.g., Political Science, International Affairs, History). In addition, with the explosion of data availability, there is a strong demand for those who can build and use economically-based statistical models derived from data. That is, they need to be able to derive knowledge from the underlying data. Our Master of Science in Applied Economics develops solid applied econometric skills which has driven the growth in the degree. In short, whether you are looking for a primary major, a second major, or an advanced degree program, we have an economics program that is tailored to your needs. If you want to learn more about Economics at Marquette, please feel free to contact me.
