Accounting

Welcome from the Chair

We are proud that our faculty, students, alumni and business partners form a strong network to develop and promote leaders in the accounting profession.

While our accounting courses focus on technical and communication skills, the Department of Accounting also emphasizes leadership and service through the internship program and activities of our student chapter of Beta Alpha Psi. Students can meet the 150 hour requirement for certification either through the undergraduate degree (with 150 credit hours), the MSA, or the Master of Business Administration (including courses needed to qualify for the CPA examination).

Our diversified accounting faculty (50% women; faculty from China and Korea) are actively engaged in scholarly activities and are excellent teachers who have strong, close relationships with accounting practitioners. The accounting faculty has academic training, relevant practice experience and professional certifications. Both undergraduate and graduate students participate in student competitions sponsored by public accounting firms and have received national recognition by being finalists in the PricewaterhouseCoopers xACT (Extreme Accounting) Campus competition. Our Beta Alpha Psi chapter is nationally recognized as evidenced by having achieved the highest award granted by the national office for over 20 consecutive years. Marquette University accounting students have also been recognized nationally for excellent performance on the CPA exam. Jenny Luchs received a Elijah Watt Sells award (top 10 score of 85,000 candidates) in 2008. Most of our students either complete an internship or work part-time with Milwaukee area businesses. These experiences usually lead to full-time employment opportunities.

Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Grant Thornton, Baker Tilly, WIPFLi, Johnson Controls, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and Kohler Co. are a few of the employers that visit Marquette each year to interview and hire our students for internships and full-time employment. Our placement rate for both the undergraduate and graduate programs is over 90%.

I invite you to explore our site and learn more about how the accomplishments of each individual contribute to the success of the Marquette University Accounting Program.
