Undergraduate Students - Application for Graduation
Undergraduate students should apply for graduation before the end of the advising period the semester BEFORE they wish to graduate. If you have any questions, contact Shirley Haig, Undergraduate Records Coordinator (414) 288-7142 as soon as possible.
Graduate Students - Application for Graduation
As a graduate student, you are responsible for verifying that you have met all degree requirements by the deadlines in the Graduate Bulletin. If you do not meet the various deadlines, you may not be able to graduate.
When you have met all degree requirements, or know that you will meet them by the deadlines, submit a Graduation Application in your CheckMarq account.
Until all graduation requirements have been met, you must maintain the appropriate registration status (less than half-time or full-time).
Important:
- If you miss the application deadline, your graduation may be delayed and you must re-apply for the next graduation.
- If you omit any requested information, your form will not be processed by the university.

Dates, Venues, Events
The Collge of Business Administration & Graduate School of Management is hosting a graduation reception on Saturday, May 18 1-3 p.m. in the sculpture garden next to Straz Hall. Business graduates and their families are invited to come to this free event to mingle with each other, as well as faculty who shaped their education. The event is free! Please RSVP to attend.
Spring Midyear Graduation activities will be held Sunday, May 19. Candidates for graduation, their families and friends are invited to join with President Scott Pilarz, S.J., and Marquette faculty and administrators in celebrating this important occasion.
Through these activities, we recognize not only the achievements of our graduates, but also acknowledge parents, spouses and others for their support.
The Senior Week Planning Team, in conjunction with MUSG, is coordinating social activities for graduates and families on Saturday, May 18.
The Graduation Mass, Graduation Program and distribution of academic apparel will be handled by the University Special Events Department.
Graduation Mass
Saturday, May 18, at 4:30 p.m., US Cellular Arena 400 E. Kilbourn Ave. Mass will be concelebrated by Father Pilarz and other members of the Marquette Jesuit Community. Attendance is optional; academic apparel will not be worn. Tickets are not needed. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Mass is expected to conclude by 6:30 p.m.
Graduation Programs
Sunday, May 19, 9:30 a.m., Bradley Center, 1001 N. 4th St. The program will include recognition of the candidates and remarks by Father Pilarz as well as an outside speaker and a student speaker. Academic apparel will be worn. Tickets are not needed; families and friends are invited to attend. Guest seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All candidates for graduation must report to the Bradley Center by 8:30 a.m. Procession lines will form at 8:45 a.m. There will be no rehearsal; complete instructions will be provided at the Bradley Center.
Candidates should assemble at the banner of their respective school or college. Please assemble around your respective banners. MBA, MSHR, EMBA, ECON, ACCO etc. students should go to the Graduate School of Management, Master's candidate area NOT the College of Business area. Undergraduate candidates should go to the College of Business Administration banner.
All candidates will march in the academic procession and be seated during the graduation program according to individual schools or colleges.
The Graduation Program will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. It is expected to conclude by 11:30 a.m.
The College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Management will hold a separate ceremony immediately following the University ceremony. The COBA/GSM ceremony will be held at the Milwaukee Theatre, 500 West Kilbourn Avenue directly south of the Bradley Center. The ceremony will begin promptly at 12:15 so please head directly to the Theater after the University ceremony. Graduates will be seated in the front of the theater in alphabetical order divided by undergraduate and graduate candidates. Individuals will be recognized as they walk across the stage.
Seating is on a first-come basis. Tickets are required for undergraduate candidates and their guests. Graduate School of Management students and their guest do NOT require tickets.
The ceremony is scheduled to end by 2:00. Candidates should be in academic appeal.
Interpreters
The Mass and Graduation Program will be signed. At Mass the signers will be at the front of the altar near the east side. At the Graduation Program the signers will be seated on the floor level in front of the stage, at the east side.
Entrance & Seating For People with Disabilities
At Gesu Church enter the main doors. The elevator is located at the far right, west end. For the Graduation Program the entrance is on Kilbourn Avenue. Seating is on the main concourse.
Cap & Gown Distribution
The graduation candidate may pick up academic apparel in the Alumni Memorial Union, Room 227, on Tuesday after finals, May 14, from 10-6 and Wednesday, May 15 from 10-4. If the candidate cannot pick up his/her own apparel, a friend or a relative may come in his/her place. Information needed to pick up the cap and gown is the candidate's name, college, degree, and height. Academic apparel will not be distributed at the Arena.
Undergraduates may retain their "keepsake" cap and gown. All graduates in Dentistry, Law, Health Sciences (MPT only), Graduate School of Management, and the Graduate School (master's and doctoral degrees) must return caps, gowns, and hoods to the representative of the cap and gown company immediately following the graduation program. (Tassels may be retained as a keepsake.)
Diplomas
The diploma date (the official graduation date for midyear graduates) will be May 19, 2013.
Diplomas may be picked up at Marquette Central in Zilber Hall on Wednesday, May 22 or any weekday thereafter between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Any special arrangements for mailing of diplomas, etc., must be made directly with the Office of the Registrar. The office of the Registrar can be contacted at 414.288.4000 or by visiting http://www.marquette.edu/registrar/diplomas/.
Invitations
An invitation from the President of the University will be sent to parents or spouse, as indicated by the graduates on the application for graduation.

The traditional printed graduation announcements are available for purchase in The Spirit Shop.
